Adobe PDF Creation Error

Posted on October 16, 2009 17:15 by Omid

I had a very annoying problem about creating Adobe PDF files, resulting this kind of message:
'Adobe PDF Creation Cannot Continue Because Acrobat is not Activated'.

Today I found a solution to this and after a couple of months (or even years!) posting nothing, I decided to share it here, maybe my never-completing blog structure would be finished someday. The actual link is here in the Adobe Knowledge base technotes.

Toggle Flash

Daniel has created a nice tool (toolbar!) that enables/disables Internet Explorer's Adobe Flash Add-On. I've installed it and now it is a click to prevent loading annoying flashes. :)

DBAN - Data Wiper

Posted on November 16, 2007 21:42 by Omid

I've replaced my five hard disks, full of personal stuff propagated in some partitions and many folders, with two new Seagate disks. (Good to mention: I'm not satisfied with these new disks; they are too noisy, get on my nerves!)

I used DBAN [Darik], a lovely tool, to wipe out all the disks. This time it was really needed.
DBAN creates bootable floppy disk, USB flash or CDROM (through Iso image) and it will DELETE all the attached hard disks at the next boot time. Depending on the level of security it reported me to wait from 6 hours to 18 hours.

It is a fact that even forcing a complete format does not mean that the data cannot be recovered by someone else! It is a point that many people ignore.

Peter Gutmann has a white paper about "Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory"

EBooks - JAR Format

Posted on November 15, 2007 12:25 by Omid

Konstantinov Andrey has created a very handy tool to create JAR eBooks named mjBookMaker. Comparing with TequilaCat or ReadManiac, I've found it simpler. It's ideal for reading books on any java enabled mobile phone that does not support PDF readers. I didn't find a place to thank him on his page so I would like to leave a comment here to say: "Thanks konstantinov" ;-).

I addition, ManyBooks is an interesting place to find free books. It even has a on-site conversion tool that enables the user to download books in a variety of formats like JAR files (Actually I found mjBook link there).  Thanks to the founder ;-)
